Day 2
Bellingham, Washington to Bremerton, WA
Daily Miles - 116.1
Cumulative Miles - 150.3
Average Speed - 10.9 MPH
Max Speed - 31.1 MPH
Ride Time - 10 Hours 38 Minutes
Oh my goodness!!!
What a long day. It was a beautiful weather day and there were so many things to see along the way. But there were A LOT of hills that really slowed me down. I planned on about 10 hours for the entire ride, but I was out for a total of 13 hours. This was due to the hills, some breaks that I took and a ferry ride (the miles on the ferry ride did not count)
Check out this bridge. It spans Deception Pass down below. It is pretty long and was only wide enough for me to walk my bicycle across. It is called Deception Pass due to the waters that flow in different directions that deceive boaters.
I also met a fellow cyclist at the end of the bridge. He was actually following me for about 30 miles. He is from Arkansas and trying to go as far as he can down the coast with the time that he has. He is doing things a little different than me. He is heading over to Seattle for a Mariners baseball game. Then he plans to head down to San Francisco for a Giants and an Oakland A's baseball game. Then he hopes to make it down to Santa Cruz. He wants to do some surfing. An Arkansas surfer? He will probably end his journey there.
I had to take a ferry from Coupeville, WA to Port Townsend, WA. I was a nice midday break and allowed me a little rest and to have some lunch. It was about a 45 minute trip. Really nice ride.
What a great ride. It was the longest ride that I will have, so I am glad it is over. Tomorrow will be another long ride. Time for me to get some rest.

Looking over the side was impressive. I watched the waters for a little while and they were all over the place. It was awesome.

While we were heading to our destination, the captain announced that a group of killer whales were off the left side of the ferry. Cameras don't do distances very well, but if you look closely right below the island, you should be able to see one that I was able to catch.
What a great ride. It was the longest ride that I will have, so I am glad it is over. Tomorrow will be another long ride. Time for me to get some rest.
116.1 miles and hills??? Man your legs must have been burning... Great pictures, sounds like a lot of fun, glad you met a fellow bike traveler (even though it sounds like he has a completely different agenda "baseball and surfing"??, not a bad way to go..!!) Hope you slept well. A lot to see tomorrow, now get moving Doc... :)
