Day 8
Newport, OR to Reedsport, OR
Daily Miles - 72.2
Cumulative Miles - 580.9
Average Speed - 11.7 MPH
Max Speed - 31.1 MPH
Ride Time - 6 Hours 7 Minutes
There we so many awesome views along the coastline today. Here are some of the better pictures that I took. I could have gotten carried away stopping, but I have to stay somewhat focused on getting on with the ride.
It is amazing that I am able to keep riding given all the sightseeing. Check out the cool lighthouse.
One of the things that I learned while bike riding is you see things at a different pace. I noticed a difference in what the pick up trucks were carrying by on the road. I stopped seeing boats and started seeing dune buggies and ATVs. Then I saw the sign for the Oregon Dunes National Park. This is a picture from a distance but the dunes are massive. Some of them were so large, they reached over onto Route 101.

Great resting time after the marathon. I got up this morning and had a nice breakfast before packing up to head out. Going over the bridge leaving Newport, I took a photo of the Yaquina inlet. These views are fantastic.

I missed the right timing at this location. When the tide is higher, the water comes up through here and blows up in the air.
As I was riding along, I heard a lot of noises that sounded like seals. I pulled over to check it out and found all of them down below.

My ride today was only supposed to be about 50 miles due to my planning on taking it easy after the marathon yesterday. I was feeling really good though, so I went further than planned. I added a little over 20 miles to help lighten the distance tomorrow. I figured I have to take advantage of the good days when I have them!

Brendon, been to Reedsport before, this is my wife’s hometown. She spent her entire young life in Reedsport before going off to College and the Marines. The best seafood comes from the west coast. This was also the first time I ate a Dungeness crab was in Reedsport. Great scenario and enjoy all your photos.. Continually in our prayers for a safe trip..
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are having a good time! I can’t wait to see pictures of California when you make it down there. Stay safe and keep enjoying the sights. Also, ever since I read your post about having “Back in the saddle” stuck in your head, it has been stuck in mine, however singing a few Christian songs has fixed that.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine being torn between spending time to take in the beautiful Mother Nature scenes & surrounding sights vs keeping eyes on the road and advancing the daily miles. Stunning photos! Thank you.
ReplyDelete“A bicycle is a bit like a guitar in that they are both inert objects that only come alive and flourish when put in contact with a human being. Both have the ability to concentrate the mind. Just as when you are performing, you tend to lose yourself when you are on the bike. For those precious hours that you are in the saddle, nothing else matters except the bike and the road ahead.”

We're glad that you had a little extra time to stop and smell the roses. There are a lot of scenic sights to be enjoyed and photographed. We are enjoying sharing your adventure and blog.

Brendon, Looking good in all the adventures! Glad the ride is going well and congrats on completing the marathon. Great to hear of your chats along the the way in the marathon but I can't help but think that had the dog incident occurred during the marathon, you would have been in under 6 hours as well! :-) Cheers, Dale
