I am getting used to the foggy mornings now. I know that by about 10 am or so, the skies will clear and the sun will be shining. The first town I rode through was Pismo Beach. This was a park that is right on the coast. The ocean is out there. I could hear it. I just couldn't see it. I am sure this place is really nice when the sun is shining on it and the waves are crashing against the coast.
As I was riding through the main street of Pismo Beach, I got a whiff of cinnamon. I turned around to see what it was. There was a cinnamon roll bakery named Old West Cinnamon Rolls. The place was packed and the cinnamon rolls were being purchased faster than they were being baked. Of course I got one, sat outside and devoured it while watching all the locals come and go. Delicious!

And this is what I have left behind me as I move down the road.
Every day brings a new adventure. Today, as I was rolling down the road and making pretty good time. There were a lot of bugs flying around. I had a few hit me in the face. No big deal. Then one flew inside my helmet. I was able to shake it loose. Then a second got caught. I started to worry and think what if.......
The next thing I know, a bee flew right in the front part of my helmet and got stuck. I am sure you know what a bee does when trapped. OUCH!!!!!!
I quickly stopped my bike, pulled off my helmet to get the bee out. It gave me such a headache.
Oh, by the way, don't laugh at what my daughter Rachel has dubbed my "Trendy Tiger Tan". I have a tiger stripe tan from the helmet. Looks really funny and I am sure people are wondering what the heck it is.
I got back on the road for about another mile or two and had to stop. My forehead was really hurting. I figured out what it was. The stinger was still in my head. Once I pulled it out, things got better. It wasn't the bees fault. We just ended up getting in each other's way.
There were two ways to get to my stopping point today. One way was a little further in miles. The other was shorter. The problem was Vandenberg Air Force Base was between me and my destination. So, based on my map recommendation, I went the short way. I should have known by the name of the road - Harris Grade Road - that is was going to be a tough one. It was over the mountain pass. Eight miles total. Four miles up and then four miles down. I looked back at one point and snapped a photo to show how far up I had come.
Into Lompoc for the night. Seems like a pretty nice town. Many of the shops and food places that I recognize from back home. Looking ahead, I only have a little over 300 miles to go.

This is the view that I have had for the past two plus weeks.
And this is what I have left behind me as I move down the road.
Today was spent on the more desert like side of the hills. This was the view for many of today's miles. It was a lot warmer as well since the coast was on the other side of the hills and not cooling things down.

We heard that you were not a breakfast kind of guy, but who can pass up a cinnamon roll any time of the day. It looks like you are making great time. You will be in your old home town before you know it. See you soon.
