Flat Tires - 2
There were signs all along the road today to be cautious of cows. The cows had free range to cross the road. I saw a whole bunch of them out on one of the cliffs. Nice place to graze.
If you look closely at the two peaks, I think there were cows up there maybe playing king of the hill.
I went through a town called Bodega Bay today. Too bad it wasn't my stopping point for the day because it was a really neat town. There was a lot of Sunday activity going on. Bodega Bay is where the Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds was filmed.
The funny thing was right outside the town, I had a bird following me. I could tell because of the shadow it was casting. It continued to follow me and at several points, it came really close to my head. I was thinking I may be in the sequel.
When I made it to about mile 70, my second wind kicked in. Things started feeling better and the wind calmed a little. Unfortunately, at mile 75, I got a flat tire. There is so much debris along the side of the road, it is bound to happen. Both flats have been the result of small metal pieces from the big semi truck retread tires that shred when they blow out.
I arrived at Olema, California. It is a small town with a population of about 50. I have to be cautious about where I ride to in order to make sure that there are places to stay for the night. If I miss out on one location, it could easily be another 20 miles before the next place to stay. I was talking to a lady in Olema and she said there are some ok places to stay just down the road 15 to 20 minutes. When I asked how far that was, she said that was by car. 15 to 20 miles. In bicycle time, that is 1 to 2 hours!
Tomorrow, I will be heading over the Golden Gate Bridge and through San Francisco.
I saw that Hurricane Bud is churning down off the coast of Mexico. I am hoping that we don't meet.

Flat Tires - 2
Today was a wacky windy day!
It started off very calm. The road was mostly flat. Then it started.
The wind kicked in and it was strong. There were some cross winds that hit me so hard, I almost got pushed off the road. I had to slow down to be able to work through the gusts. At one point, I tuned a corner and the headwind was so strong, I was only able to ride 3 miles per hour. Then I turned a few more times and it was a tailwind. This continued for about 4 hours.
Here is a picture of the view I had from where I stayed the night. Pretty nice!

The ocean was churning today with the wind. There were some big waves.

Your trip is so interesting. That bird from Bodega Bay was an angel on your shoulder. We are so glad that you are sharing it with us. Keep up the good ride. Be careful going through SF, there are a lot of strange people there. You can rest when you get to South Orange County aka Coto. Stay positive. Godspeed.
ReplyDeleteMother nature (or global warming) have been fierce with wild whipping extreme winds which have become the norm along with horrible storms we didn't experience 10, 20, 30 etc years ago. I literally get blown away. Scary stuff.
ReplyDeleteThus I shudder at the thought you were able to bike in the wacky winds you described. (My inside voice said...is BD crazy (with all due respect))!
How windy is too windy to ride the bike? 🌬🛏
Sharp photos & amazing blue vivid sky!!
I hope the flat tire tally will not increase for the remaining legs of the Adventure.
Golden Gate Bridge....how foggy is too foggy to ride the bike. ? 🌫
Beautiful deep blue sky..such vivid colors and sharp photos.
